Locked out
Keys in the car and the doors are locked
It happens to everyone eventually. Ring Ian, tell him where you are, and don't try the coat hanger – it costs more to fix the door than to open it properly.
Getting you back in
Ian opens cars and small vans using proper locksmith tools, without scratching paint or damaging the lock or the door seal. Most lockouts take a few minutes once he's there.
Common ones
- Keys dropped in the boot and the lid slammed shut
- Keys on the seat, central locking triggered by the fob in a pocket or bag
- Child or dog has locked the doors from inside
- Key snapped off in the door or ignition – Ian extracts the broken piece and cuts a new blade
- Door lock jammed or fob not responding
What to have ready
Proof that the car is yours – a V5C, insurance document or a photo of it on your phone with ID. Ian will ask every time. If you'd rather he didn't open a car for just anyone, you'll understand why.
While you wait
If it's hot and there's a child or animal inside, don't wait for anyone – ring 999. Otherwise Ian will tell you honestly how long he'll be and you can get a brew.
